Get Involved With Our Activities

There are many ways for you to get involved with our activities.  See the options below.

Be a Workshop Volunteer

RePlay for Kids host workshops in which volunteers are shown how to adapt mainstream, battery-powered toys with external switches so that children with disabilities can use them. These adapted toys are then provided, for free, to agencies that work with kids with disabilities.

You can come to a workshop at our Creative Space in Solon, Ohio.  You can find upcoming workshop on our calendar.

Host a Workshop

If you would like to have a team-building, community-service activity at your company or with your community group, consider hosting a RePlay for Kids toy adaptation workshop. RePlay for Kids brings all the necessary tools and toys (although the hosts are asked to donate new or gently-used toys if possible). All the host needs to provide are the volunteers and a workspace with some tables, chairs and outlets (a conference room or break room would do). Workshops are usually set up to last from two to four hours, depending on the company’s needs. Technical skills are not needed, as the RePlay for Kids workshop leaders will guide everyone through the necessary steps. Librarians, accountants, secretaries, bank tellers, and even lawyers have successfully adapted toys in our workshops.

Contact us if you would like to set up a workshop, or find out more information.  Companies can also work with Business Volunteers Unlimited to set up a workshop.

Volunteer at Home

In response to the pandemic, RePlay for Kids started the Volunteer@Home program:

This volunteer opportunity is available for individuals who have experience soldering.  Volunteers can adapt toys at home and assemble switch kits.  Contact Us if you are interested in helping.   We can loan you the tools needed to adapt a toy.  Please let us know if you have adapted toys in the past and your soldering skill level.  This will help us select the right type of toys for you to adapt.

Skill levels:

  • Beginner – Have soldered a few times and I understand how a circuit works.
  • Intermediate – Like to solder and take things apart.
  • Expert – Can fix most things.  Know how to use a multimeter.

Our Toy Adapting Instructions Database has step-by-step directions on how to adapt a toy.  You can also refer to the RePlay for Kids YouTube Channel for tutorial videos.

Host a Toy Drive

Collect new or gently-used battery-operated toys and donate them to RePlay for Kids to be adapted at a workshop.  You can see tips on setting up a toy drive here.

Attend a Fundraiser

Attend one of our fundraiser events.  Have fun while supporting a good cause.  Get more details and see our most recent fundraiser here.

Adapted Toy Giveaway

Each year, RePlay for Kids hosts an Adapted Toy Giveaway event, where  representatives from different agencies (usually either therapists or teachers) look through the large number of the toys that have been adapted throughout the year and select adapted toys that are appropriate for the students they work with. They get to pick from plush toys, remote controlled cars, action figures, and musical or light-up toys that have all been adapted by volunteers, and that are available FOR FREE to these agencies to help children with disabilities.

You can find out more here.  If you are interested in receiving adapted toys, contact us.
